Sarah Sjostrom concluded her masterful meet at the Swedish Summer Championships with her sixth victory of the week.

Sjostrom threw down a sizzling 52.97 to win the women’s 100-meter freestyle.  That swim bettered her third-ranked season best of 53.00 as she still stands behind Cate Campbell and Femke Heemskerk’s 52.69s.

Sjostrom cleared her meet record from a year ago of 53.03 as she’s definitely tuning up for the World Championships in Kazan next month.

Michelle Coleman touched second in 54.89 with Magdalena Kuras finishing third in 56.24.

Simon Sjodin set a meet record in the men’s 200-meter IM.  He clocked a time of 2:00.14 to clear his previous mark of 2:00.47 from 2013.  Linus Kanth took second in 2:07.14 with Simon Frank placing third in 2:07.19.

Erik Persson clipped the meet record in the men’s 100-meter breast with a 1:02.24.  That swim cleared the 1:02.50 set by Martin Gustavsson way back in 2005.  Johannes Skagius, the Swedish record holder with a 1:00.85 from 2013, took second tonight in 1:03.10.  Niklas Tour wound up third in 1:04.17.

Ida Marko-Varga crushed the field in the women’s 200-meter fly with a time of 2:13.57.  Frida Berggren touched a distant second in 2:18.40 with Elin Podeus earning third in 2:21.39.

Oscar Ekstrom won the men’s 200-meter free in 1:51.83 with Robin Andreasson taking second in 1:52.19.  Jesper Jonsson wound up third in 1:53.60.

Louise Hansson claimed the women’s 200-meter IM in 2:14.60 with Stina Gardell taking second in 2:15.67.  Berggren earned a second medal on the day with a third-place 2:20.27.

Erica Dahlgren smashed the field in the women’s 1500-meter free in 17:17.20. Hanna Eriksson took second in 17:30.83 with Ellen Olsson earning third in 17:43.24.

And she started slow – 26,13 – the last lap was scary fast. I do hope tha she’ll skip relay duties and do 50, 100 fly and 50, 100 and 200 free in Kazan.

Unfortunately her coach confirmed after the race that she will be scratching 200 free, but swim it in the relays. Reason to give herself the best chance in the freestyle sprints. Team is very important for the Swedes, and they probably want to show the Swedish committee that they should send a team to the Olympics next year. I respectfully disagree about the decision.

It is very unfortunate – but I do hope she will do the 200 in Rio.
