San Jose State vs. Stanford

STANFORD, California, October 1. STANFORD freshman Andie Taylor won three events and Stanford (1-0) defeated visiting San Jose State (0-1) 187-to-100 in the first dual meet of each team’s season. Stanford had the top time in 14 of 16 events.

Taylor, a freshman out of Sammamish, WA, won the 200 free with a B time of 1:48.58, two seconds ahead of fellow freshman Maya DiRado (1:51.02), the 200 fly (2:02.58), a second a head of classmate Kirstie Chen (2:03.69) and the 500 free (4:53.31) ahead of classmate Allison Arnold (5:05.69).

Kate Dwelley had the top time in the 100 fly at 54.27 with a B standard, after Stanford stopped scoring following a large lead.

Stanford freshman Stephanie Phipps won the one-meter (2:15.18) ahead of SJSU junior Jessica Holden (212.40) and Dirado won the 200 back with a B standard of 1:58.60. Phipps was also second in the three-meter with a score of 245.40 to Stanford All-American Meg Hostage and her score of 263.25.

Sophomore Andi Murez won the 100 back (56.97) and the 100 free (50.53).

Stanford won all but one event, as Betsy Webb, Liz Smith, Sam Woodward and Dwelley began things off with the 200 medley title (1:43.11), followed by Kelsey Ditto (10:01.01) in the 1000 free, and Smith in the 100 breast (1:03.69). Webb also won the 50 free, beating off teammate, Woodward by three hundreths of a second, 23.33 to 23.36.

Webb, Woodward, Dwelley and Murez closed out the meet with a time of 1:33.82 in the 200 free relay.

Former All-American Julia Smit, swimming unattached, won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.37. Smith had the top current time at 2:02.76

Stanford is back in action on October 15 and 16 when it hosts the two-day George Haines Invitational.
