San Jose State Swimming Claims Two-Day Fresno State Bulldog Invite Title

FRESNO, California, October 12. The San Jose State swimming and diving team defeated Mountain West members Fresno State and Air Force to take home the top spot in the two-day Bulldog Invitational at the Aquatics Center in Fresno, Calif.

“We are very happy with both the approach the team took into this meet and how they performed. It was a complete effort today,” said head coach Sage Hopkins.

“Last night in a team meeting I challenged the swimmers and divers to win the meet by 300 points, and we achieved that goal; winning by 320 points. We had many highlights today, perhaps most notable being freshman Brenna [Bushey] winning two events and setting a new meet and pool record in the 100 fly,” said Hopkins.

Freshman Brenna Bushey continued her stellar swimming with three first-place finishes in the 100 fly, 100 back and 100 free. The Littleton, Colo. native set the pool and meet record in the 100 fly with a time 54.78.

San José State also got strong showings from junior Riley Spitser, as she led the pack in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.72. Morgan McCormick also earned a top finish in the 200 back touching the wall in 2:04.79.

The Spartans team of Michaela McLean, Christina Bruni, Brynne Beneke, and Taylor Solorio bested the field with a time of 1:36.46 in the 200 free relay. SJSU also took first in the 400 medley with a time of 3:53.25 from Morgan McCormich, Dominique Yoder, Beneke, and McLean.

San José State will return to the pool on Friday, October 17 in a head to head matchup with UC Davis in Davis, Calif. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m. PT.
