Salo to Lead American Men Into Battle in 2005 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool

ALISO VIEJO, CA, December 17. SOKA University of America (SUA) and Irvine NOVAS Head Swim Coach and Director of Aquatics Dave Salo has been named men’s Head Coach for the United States all-star team in the Mutual of Omaha Duel In The Pool dual meet against arch rivals Australia, per SOKA sources.

The meet will be held August 2, 2005 at the recently completed William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Complex in Irvine, California.

In the last 14 months, Salo has launched the intercollegiate swimming and water polo programs at Soka University, and was a member of his fourth Olympic Staff at the Athens Games. In November, USA Swimming named Salo the men’s National Team Head Coach for the 2005 World Championships. Salo was tabbed by SUA to be the Founding Director of Aquatics and Head Coach in September of 2003.

Mutual of Omaha’s Duel in the Pool is a head-to-head competition that will settle the biggest rivalry in Olympic sports, and will go a long way in determining whether the USA or Australia has the No. 1 swim team in the world. Organized by USA Swimming, The Duel in the Pool will pit the best swimmers from the United States and Australia in a winner-take-all format, building on the intense competition that highlighted the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, and the 2004 Games in Athens.
