Salim Iles of Algeria Shatters All Africa Games 100 Free Record

ALGIERS, Algeria, July 14. IN front of a partisan crowd, Salim Iles of Algeria shattered the All Africa Games record in the 100 free to headline a solid day of swimming during the third night of action.

Iles clocked a time off 49.38 in the 100 free, while teammate Nabil Kebbab placed second in 49.82.

"It's been a while since I last competed in finals. This victory does confirm I'm back," he said.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry doubled up with wins in the disparate events of the 100 back (1:01.28) and 800 free (8:43.89).

South Africa brought its gold-medal total to 12 after three days of competition with another two added to the coffer.

Cameron van der Burgh won the 50 breast in 27.74, while George Du Rand touched in 2:02.69 in the 200 back.
