By Lileana Pearson, Swimming World College Intern

Freshmen are the building blocks of NAIA swimming, and Concordia swimming’s Hunter Sa-Nguansap is serving his structural purpose. Despite his new athlete status at Concordia University Irvine, Sa-Nguansap is still building his team up to be one of the best in the NAIA.

Concordia University Irvine is an U.S. News Top Tier Regional University which helps students pursue their calling in life. Concordia empowers students through the liberal arts and professional studies for lives of learning, service and leadership.

CUI also boasts an excellent swim program and is a top competitor at the NAIA National Championship each year. This season, the men hold the number one ranking and women hold the number two slot. Eleven of CUI’s 58 swimmers are freshmen. Of the six freshmen men on the team, Hunter Sa-Nguansap really stands out.

He is a prominent swimmer from Chino Hills, California and was a member of the Ruben S. Ayala high school varsity team all four years. Sa-Nguansap competed in the Speedo Junior National Championships in high school, and has joined Concordia with the drive to be one of their best athletes.

Sa-Nguansap specializes in I.M., but that does not stop him from being formidable competition in most events. He is ranked in the conference’s top five in the 1000 freestyle, 100 and 200 breaststroke, and the 200 and 400 IM.

You can anticipate personal bests and times that scare NAIA swimming records from Sa-Nguansap at this year’s NAIA National Championship. Sa-Nguansap is swimming through his freshman year with grace and power, showing glimpses of future greatness.
