Rutherford Sets World Mark at Paralympic World Champs

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina, December 11. MIKHAILA Rutherford set a world record to highlight action on Day Two of the IPC World Swimming Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

The 14 year-old from Alameda, Calif., clocked 1:14.13 for the women's 100m backstroke to take the gold and set the record in the S10 division.

Five other Americans earned medals today: Curtis Lovejoy was second and set an American record in the men's SM2 150m Individual Medley (4:34.84)

Jarret Perry also earned silver with an American record, stopping the clock at 1:06.98 in the 100m back in the S9 category for men.

Justin Zook picked up the bronze in the men's S10 100m backstroke, posting an American record 1:05.73.

In the SM5 100m breaststroke, US swimmers took the bronze in both the men's and women's event. Brandi Van Anne finished third among the women, while Aaron Paulson was third among the men.

After two days, Great Britain leads in the medal count, though Canada has 9 golds to Britain's eight. The US is tied with Australia for fifth.
