BERLIN, Germany, August 3. ONE of Russia’s top freestyle talents, Danila Izotov, will not make the European Championships slate for Aug 18-24 after disclosing a shoulder injury via the Russian Federation this weekend.

Russian Swimming Federation president Vladimir Salnikov released a statement this weekend explaining the move to pull Izotov from the team.

“Today, Russian Swimming’s head coach Anatoly Zhuravlev made the final decision on the composition of our team for the European Championships,” Salnikov said. “Unfortunately, Danila Izotov will not perform at the meet. He has an injury.”

That’s a big blow for Team Russia as Izotov is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a silver in the 800 free relay in 2008 and bronze in the 400 free relay in 2012. He also helped Russia win the 400 and 800 free relays at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest.
