Russian Long Course Nationals: Roman Sludnov Posts Strong 100 Breast Time

MOSCOW, Russia, May 6. SEVERAL world-ranked times went in the books during the second day of competition at the Russian Long Course Nationals held in Moscow.

Roman Sludnov clocked a swift time of 1:00.67 in the men's 100 breast. That swim jumped Sludnov all the way up to sixth overall in the world. He is now one of eight swimmers to clear 1:01 this year, including a pair of sub-minute times form Ryo Tateishi (59.84) and Kosuke Kitajima (59.91). Grigory Falko finished second in 1:01.01, while Anton Lobanov placed third in 1:02.01.

Evgeny Korotyshkin earned the men's 50 fly title in a sterling time of 23.50. That performance moved him to third in the world rankings behind only Rafael Munoz (23.45) and Geoff Huegill (23.46). Nikita Konovalov finished second in 24.20, while Vladislav Gray (24.38) and Nikolay Skvortsov (24.47) placed third and fourth.

Irina Bespalova cruised to victory in the women's 50 fly with a time of 26.92. The timing tied her for 21st in the world rankings this year. Fran Halsall also has a 26.92 from the Duel in the Pool in February. Vasilisa Vladykina placed second in 27.45, while Julia Mantsev finished third in 27.66.

Vitaly Borisov claimed the men's 100 back title in 54.61, which moved him up to 17th in the world this year. Artem Dubovskoy touched second in 55.09, while Alexander Tarabrin (55.18) and Stanislav Donets (55.22) placed third and fourth.

Anastasia Zueva picked up the women's 200 back crown in 2:10.25, vaulting to 14th in the world rankings. Maria Gromova took second in 2:12.77, while Alexander Papusha wound up third in 2:13.78.
