The Russian synchronised swimming team defended its reigning world champion title in the team free routine. The hosts earned 98.4667 points which came out as the best result in this event.

The Russian team was initially considered the event’s hot favourite and confirmed its status in the preliminaries by taking the lead with 97.6333. But in the final they managed not only to live up to sport experts’ expectations but also to improve their score. 98.4667 is a superb result not to mention the breathtaking performance of the pool’s hosts. Even the new scoring system kind of surrendered to these brilliant synchro swimmers. The girls even succeeded in getting two perfect tens from the judges: the first one is for execution and the second one is for artistic impression.

Evidently, there is an urge to go into detail about the Russian team’s routine that deservedly earned the hosts the world champion crown tonight. The Russians went out on the deck wearing blue sparkling swimsuits. Sparkling also was their cascade of stunning elements and stunts that enthralled the audience with the beauty in its purest form, quintessential synchronicity, teamwork and elegance of movements, all of which are achieved through many hours of training and, above all, through a perfect chemistry between the teammates.

Synchronised swimmers from Canada, performing sixth, set the tone for the rest of the competition. Their routine earned 90 points sharp. But eventually everything went as clean as a whistle. The allocation of the first three top positions repeated the standings in the preliminary round. The Chinese athletes became second, the Japanese ones finished third.
