On night four of the 2018 YMCA National Championships no more National Records fell, but there were more close races and great swims. There are a number of tight team races going on headed into the final day.

Women’s 500 Freestyle

After winning the 400 IM last night in a huge lifetime best time, York’s senior Leah Braswell won the 500 freestyle in 4:42.09, three seconds ahead of second place, Emma Weyant of Sarasota (4:45.45), who was also runner up in the 400 IM. Wilton’s Catherine Buroker, who was in second at the 200, touched third in 4:47.62.

Men’s 500 Freestyle

Ross Dant was faster than his prelims time, but still couldn’t close in on the YMCA National record in the 500 freestyle. The Hickory swimmer earned gold in 4:19.86. While verbally committed to NC State, Dant is still only a junior, and has one more Nationals to break Nicholas Caldwell‘s 2011 mark of 4:18.01. He adds this gold to his 1,000 victory and 200 backstroke silver.

Sarasota’s Arik Katz followed his teammate Weyant in finishing second, stopping the clock in 4:24.38. Greenwich’s Christian Farricker couldn’t match Katz’s closing speed and finished third in 4:25.12.
