Rosary Wins Illinois State Girls High School Title

EVANSTON, Illinois, November 20. Rosary High out of Aurora took home the 2006 Illinois Girls State High School Championship with 163 points over Nov. 17-18. The Illinois High School Association held the event at the Evanston Township facility.

Meanwhile, Barrington High placed second with 123 points, while New Trier High out of Winnetka garnered third with 107 points. Glenbrook North High out of Northbrook (99) and Stevenson High out of Lincolnshire (90) comprised the rest of the top five.

Loyola Academy junior Betsy Webb recorded the event deuce with a pair of wins. She captured the 50 free in 22.95, before taking home the 100 back in 56.28.

Central High junior Amy Prestinario also won a pair of crowns in the 200 IM (2:04.44) and the 500 free (4:57.48).

One of the closest swimmers to breaking a state standard came in the form of Mt. Vernon High sophomore Amber Green in the 100 free. She touched in 50.55 to win the title, just off the 50.10 set by St. Charles High's Kristen Brennan in 1999.

In diving action, Stevenson High freshman Kerrin Seymour won with 388.55 points.
