Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships: Day Three

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 21. UNIVERSITY of the Incarnate Word won both the men's and women's 2009 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship titles at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas. This was the first RMAC Swimming & Diving championship meet since 1984. The three day meet was hosted by Incarnate Word.

Mesa State (799) and Colorado Mines (460) placed second and third, respectively in the women's team standings, while Texas-Permian Basin finished fourth (435). Nebraska-Kearney scored 312 points to place fifth followed by Grand Canyon's 259 points. UIW scored 114 more points than its nearest competitor to win the title (913). Incarnate Word edged Colorado Mines to win the men's title. The Cardinals posted 798.5 points to the Orediggers 775 points. Texas-Permian Basin finished fourth with 731.5 points and Grand Canyon rounded out the men's team scoring with 409 points.

Head coaches from each institution voted on the 2009 RMAC individual award winners. Incarnate Word's Paulina Alexander and Alex Yatsko were voted the RMAC Women's and Men's Swimmer of the Year. Annie Moyer of Nebraska-Kearney and Jesse Dennis of Colorado Mines were named the RMAC Diver's of the Year. The RMAC Freshman of the Year was awarded to Grand Canyon's Caitilin Hoffman and Incarnate Word's Patrick Cardenas. Mesa State's Brian Pearson and Incarnate Word's Phillip Davis were selected the RMAC's Co-Coach of the Year. Davis was also voted the RMAC Men's Coach of the Year. The women's and men's Most Valuable Player went to the athlete that earned the most points in the conference championship meet. Hoffman won the women's MVP award while Yatsko earned the men's MVP honor.
