Rockhurst High School Wins Missouri Boys High School Swimming and Diving State Title

ST. PETERS – The Rockhurst High School boys amassed 270 points to take home the Missouri Boys High School Swimming and Diving state championship over the weekend at the St. Peters Rec Plex. Park Hill High School finished second in the team standings with 172 points, followed by Rock Bridge High School with 144. St. Louis University High School (133 points) and Kickapoo High School (130 points) rounded out the top five.

Rockhurst got the meet off to an exciting start with a state record in the 200 medley relay, as Ethan Bock, Alex Albracht, AJ Iseman and Trevor Weinrich combined to post a time of 1:35.19, under the previous state mark of 1:35.94. St. Louis University’s Justin Andrews, Mark Franz, Colin Derdeyn and Peter Brooks wrapped up second with a 1:37.17, while Staley’s foursome of Jason Schlaud, Collin Duffy, Daniel Maynard and John Pittala hung on for third at 1:38.52.

Kickapoo’s Samuel Senn dropped over three seconds from his prelim time to win the 200 free in 1:40.35. St. Louis University’s Justin Andrews, who just got out of the 200 medley relay minutes before, finished second in 1:41.13. Andrew Workman gave Kickapoo a 1-3 finish with his 1:44.18 for third.

A second state record fell in the 200 IM, as Vianney’s Nick Alexander cut four tenths off the previous mark with a 1:49.55. Rockhurst’s Alex Albracht solidified second with a 1:53.39, while Barry Chang gave Park Hill its first top three finish of the day with a 1:55.34.

Marcin Glebocki of Park Hill sprinted to a state title in the 50 free, stopping the clock in 21.02. Michael Hynes, a senior at Lee’s Summit North, moved up a couple spots from prelims with a 21.30, while St. Louis University’s Colin Derdeyn rounded out the top three in 21.43.

Lafayette’s Matt McCool topped the 1-meter diving event with 486.00 points, comfortably ahead of Rockhurst’s David Knopke (469.85) and Francis Howell North’s Peter Lucido (447.25).

Rockhurst returned to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, with junior AJ Iseman posting the fastest time of the day at 50.91. Central’s Brogan Davis passed two swimmers down the stretch to secure second in 51.44, while Park Hill’s Barry Chang wrapped up third in 51.58.

Samuel Senn of Kickapoo went two-for-two in his individual events, doubling up in the 100 and 200 free. In the 100 free, he posted a time of 46.00 to out-distance 50 free champ Marcin Glebocki of Park Hill (46.34) and runner-up Michael Hynes of Lee’s Summit North (46.59).

Rockhurst’s Collin Nill cruised to a win in the 500 free, touching first by almost six seconds in 4:33.81. Justin Andrews of St. Louis University swam to a second place finish with his 4:39.22, while Rock Bridge freshman Zach Lorson made the podium in his first high school state meet with a 4:40.32.

Park Hill got to the wall first in the 200 free relay, with Barry Chang, Danny Jones, Jered Weger and Marcin Glebocki posting a 1:27.36 to top Rockhurst’s Max Allen, Noah Ries, Trevor Weinrich and Collin Nill (1:28.56). Lee’s Summit North, represented by Michael Hynes, Brady Benefiel, Josh Littell and Thomas Faulkenberry, rounded out the top three in 1:29.11.

Nick Alexander of Vianney stayed undefeated in his individual events with a 49.72 in the 100 back, just .21 off the state record held by Scott Jostes. TJ Halliburton of Chaminade just beat out AJ Iseman of Rockhurst for second, 51.75 to 51.91.

After finishing second in the 200 IM earlier, Rockhurst senior Alex Albracht picked up the state title he was looking for in the 100 breast with a 57.02. Kickapoo sophomore Jordan Hill (57.91) and Central senior Evan Petrich (58.42) rounded out the top three.

Rockhurst clinched the team title with a victory in the 400 free relay as Collin Nill, Ethan Bock, Alex Albracht and AJ Iseman swam a 3:10.86 to close out the meet. Park Hill’s quartet of Barry Chang, Danny Jones, Jered Weger and Marcin Glebocki came in second at 3:13.11, while Ethan Finlinson, Daniel Hof, Tim Bavlsik and Austin Mayer gave Lindbergh a third place finish in 3:15.20.
