OXFORD – Miami University men’s swimming and diving adds another member to the team after incoming freshman Robert Newman officially committed to swim for the RedHawks, head coach Peter Lindsay announced Thursday afternoon.

Newman comes to Miami from Crestview Hills, Kentucky. He currently swims for Jason Roberts at Northern Kentucky Clippers and is finishing up his senior year at Covington Catholic High School. Newman mainly competes in the butterfly and freestyle. In the 100-yard butterfly, Newman has turned in a time of 49.66. In the 200-yard butterfly, he clocked a time of 1:49.37. Newman also competes in the 200-yard freestyle where his current personal best is 1:41.86. Last month, Newman competed in the 2015 KHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships where he turned in his top times in the 100-yard butterfly and in the 200-yard freestyle. The incoming RedHawk also swam in the 2015 NCSA Junior Nationals where he clocked a time of 21.76 in the 50-yard freestyle.

This announcement comes almost four months after naming the four other swimmers who have committed to the class of 2019. Joining Newman next season will be Jake Precious (Louisville, Ky./Ballard), Will Pieseski (Castle Rock, Colo./ Regis Jesuit), Nick Potter (De Forest, Wis./ De Forest) and diver Harrison Moncino (Sandy Springs, Ga./ Pace Academy).
