Rick Azevedo Named Head Water Polo Coach at Long Beach State

Long Beach, CA – Ricardo Azevedo, head water polo coach at Long Beach Wilson High School, was named head men’s water polo coach at Long Beach State University. Azevedo’s team won the C.I.F. Southern Section championships in 1998 and Azevedo was named “Coach of the Year”. From 1992-96, Azevedo served as first assistant Olympic team coach. From 1988-92, he was the head USWP National Junior Team coach and led the US team to the highest finish ever in the Junior World Championships (4th in 1989 and 5th in 1991). Azevedo played on the Brazilian National team from 1974-80 and was twice voted Brazil’s “Player of the Year.” He played collegiately at Long Beach State University where he was a two-time All-American.
