Richmond Women Down Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Ja. 17. THE University of Richmond women's swimming and diving team (6-4) defeated Wagner in an evening meet tonight, 117 to 76.

There was no men's meet as Richmond killed off its men's team in the name of equality several years ago.

The Spiders earned eight first-place finishes to the Seahawks' three.

Freshmen Anne Kirchner (Winter Park, Fla.) and Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) continued their standout seasons with first places in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:28.12) and 200-yard freestyle (1:55.52), respectively.

Teammates juniors Calla DeRuosi (Richmond, Va.) and Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa.), along with sophomore Jill Squires (Grafton, Va.) also contributed to the Spiders points total. DeRuosi placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.45), while Sabri and Squires swam to first in the 100-yard freestyle (55.00) and backstroke (1:01.82), respectively.

Sophomore Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.) continued her dominant season with two first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.80) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.68).

The Spider 400-yard individual medley relay teams, led by senior Elizabeth Cook (Rockville, Va.) started the meet by grabbing first and second.

Richmond dives right back into action tomorrow, Saturday, January 18 at noon against Columbia.
