Rice’s Brittany Massengale Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

DALLAS, Texas. December, 21. FOR the second time this season Rice sophomore Brittany Massnegale has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week (Dec. 14-20), the league office announced on Tuesday. Massengale earned the C-USA weekly honor after helping the Owls move ahead of host UNLV and finish in second place among a field of 10 teams on the final day of competition at the UNLV Winter Invitational Monday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Massengale took home two individual victories to pace the Owls. She topped a field of 64 competitors to win the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 4:51.45. The Rice standout from Alma, Arkkansas also won the mile over a field of 24 competitors with a time of 16:43.80. Massengale was a member of the Owls' 800-freestyle relay team that finished third among 21 teams. C-USA Diver of the Week honors went to Marshall senior Casey Mulholland for the second time this season.

The Rice swim team is now off until after New Year's. The team returns to action out west with a dual meet on the road at Pac 10 power Arizona State on Jan. 6. Start time for the showdown with the Sund Devils is 11 am in Tempe, Ariz.
