Rice vs. SMU

DALLAS, Texas, October 30. THE SMU women's swim team defeated Rice 127-73 Saturday afternoon at Perkins Natatorium. The Mustangs won nine of the meet's 11 events. With the win, SMU moves to 2-0 in dual meets this season.

Freshman Alice McCall took top honors the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in with a time 10:12.72 and besting the field by more than 13 seconds. The distance specialist also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:00.02 and took first in the 200-yard butterfly, with a time of 2:06.18.

Freestyle specialist Anna Santos picked up victories in both the 100-yard freestyle (53.19) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.63). The sophomore also swam the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay that finished in a first place time of 1:51.19.

Senior Maroua Mathlouthi won the 400-yard IM finishing with a time of 4:28.01, almost 13 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Mathlouthi took runner-up honors in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.25).

Junior Emily Vavourakis took first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.51) and swam the first leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:40.48).
