SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts, November 6. THE University of Rhode Island women’s swimming and diving team picked up a 153-147 victory over the Springfield Pride on Saturday afternoon.
Rhody got off to a strong start in its first road test of the season by claiming the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay to open the meet. Kate Mangano, Alexandra Lalli, Melissa Flynn and Eileen Morrison teamed up to take first in time of 1:51.72.
URI kept on rolling in the 200-yard freestyle as Lillian Falconer (1:57.67) and Susan Nugent (1:57.99), took the top two spots. Rhody took another one-two finish in the 100 yard backstroke as Kinsey Tarbell (1:01.47) and Jennifer Lopez (1:04.86) finished first and second.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Samantha Veccia (1:09.13) and Alexander (1:10.13) placed first and second to keep the momentum in Rhody’s favor.
Nugent continued her early season success with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly as Flynn followed with a third place finish. Nugent also claimed the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:14.17.
Falconer claimed another top spot as she won the 200-yard backstroke in time of 2:14.16.
Veccia accounted for another victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:30.33 as Teresa Lincoln followed in 5th place.
With the meet coming down to its final event, the 400-yard freestyle, URI took first on its way to a 153-147 meet victory over Springfield. Mangano, Tarbell, Morrison and Falconer teamed up to post the top time of 3:34.56.
Rhode Island is back in action on Saturday, November 13th, as it travels to Durham, N.H. to take on New Hampshire. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
