MONTREAL, May 14. FOLLOWING two days of improved efforts, the Canadian World Championship Trials returned to unspectacular form Friday night, although Brittany Reimer recorded her third victory of the competition.
Reimer highlighted the fourth day of action with a triumph in the 800 freestyle. Having already won the 400 and 1,500 freestyle events, Reimer clocked 8:38.05 in the 800 to defeat Tanya Hunks (8:42.73).
Mike Mintenko had the top swim among the men, as he won the 100 butterfly in 53.33. Mintenko was followed to the wall by Adam Sioui, who notched a mark of 53.92.
The winner of the 100 and 200 free events, Brent Hayden came up short in his attempt at a trifecta. Hayden finished the 50 freestyle in third place (22.92). Matt Rose took top honors in the event (22.77), followed by Yannick Lupien (22.91).
Other winners from the fourth night were Kelly Stefanyshyn in the women’s 200 backstroke (2:14.36), Kathleen Stoody in the women’s 200 breaststroke (2:30.63) and Keith Beavers in the men’s 200 backstroke (2:00.13).
