Record-Breaking Weekend at the Speedo Central State Sectionals

JENKS, Oklahoma, March 10. The SCS Speedo Central State Sectionals, hosted by Jenks Trojan Swim Club wrapped up tonight at the Jenks Aquatic Center. The four-day meet showcased a collection of young, talented swimmers.

Two meet records fell the first two nights, in the men's 1000 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke.

13-year-old Michael Andrew, of Team Andrew Indiana, kicked off third night of finals with a win in the men's 200 yard IM. He posted a 1:50.54 in the event, a very respectable time, especially considering was racing 16-18 year olds.

Springfield Aquatic's Yekate Rudenko broke the 23 second barrier in the women's 50 freestyle, winning the event with a 22.91. She also took the meet record in the event, previously held at a 23.07 in 2006 by Sam Woodward.

Gage Crosby, of Razorback Aquatics, crushed his prelim time (2:06.41) to take the win in the men's 200 yard breaststroke at a 1:59.82. Crosby's time erased Michael Bruce's 1999 meet record in the event (2:00.04).

Meet records continued to fall in the men's 100 yard backstroke. Kansas City Blazer's Benjamin Scheffer clocked a 48.64, nearly a full second faster than the previous record held by Scott Josties. Scheffer added another win the following night in the men's 200 yard backstroke. Although he didn't capture Ellis Miller's 1:46.10 meet record, his 1:47.68 finishing time turned heads.

Heather Lundstrom of Parkway Swim Club won the 500 yard freestyle Saturday night, at a 4:52.42, after placing second in the 200 IM to Chelsea Tatlow earlier in the night. Sunday, Lundstrom cracked the two-minute barrier in the women's 200 yard butterfly for the event win. She raced to a 1:59.68.

The Kansas City Blazers closed the meet with a 1-2 A and B relay finish in the men's 400 yard freestyle relay. The Blazers swept the men's relay events, also claiming wins in the men's 800 freestyle and 400 medley relays.
