Randall Bal, Therese Alshammar Lock Up FINA World Cup Trophies

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, November 25. AS officially announced by FINA today, the United States' Randall Bal and Sweden's Therese Alshammar completed strong showings at the FINA World Cup en route to winning overall standings trophies.

Bal, who claimed an incredible 21 backstroke titles with a complete sweep of the stroke during the World Cup circuit, finished first among the men with 186 points to earn the top prize of $100,000. Sweden's Stefan Nystrand, on the back of a pair of world records, claimed $50,000 for his second-place tally of 101 points. Brazil's Thiago Pereira, meanwhile, jumped into third place to overtake Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov with 96 points to earn $30,000.

Alshammar, who trailed the United States' Natalie Coughlin earlier in the series, pocketed the women's $100,000 by being more consistent in her participation in the circuit to amass 160 points. Coughlin, while only swimming in a few of the meets, put together 110 points to take home $50,000. The Netherlands' Marleen Veldhuis tallied 65 points with a world record to boot en route to a $30,000 payday.
