Radford Invite, Day Three

RADFORD, Virginia, November 19. WITH the result not decided until the final race, Campbell edged Liberty by 6.5 points to win the team championship at the 2011 Radford Invitational.
Campbell posted a team score of 673, slightly ahead of Liberty's 666.5. Georgia Southern placed third with 619 points, followed by Saint Francis (Pa.) with 477 and North Florida with 430.5.

Liberty, the team leader after 19 events, led Campbell, 634.5-603 entering the 400 freestyle relay. The Camels placed first and fourth in the 400 free relay, while Liberty's A team was disqualified. The Lady Flames' B team (Bethany Wakeley, Emily Duff, Meghan Babcock, Chloe Thomas) finished in third with a time of 3:35.28.

In a recurring theme of the weekend, Duff and Erin Curry lowered a program record in the same race. Duff took second place in the 200 back in a Liberty-record 2:07.21. Curry swam a 2:07.27, good for third place. Curry had held the Liberty standard at 2:08.32, entering Saturday.

Brye Ravettine set a meet record by clocking 51.58 to win the 100 free, while Marley Cripe claimed second with a time of 52.21. Cori Gary placed fifth in 52.74.

Bethany Wakeley finished the 200 fly in 2:07.29, earning second place in the A final.

In total, Liberty posted six meet records and three pool records during the three-day meet. The Lady Flames also broke three individual program records and one Liberty relay record at the invitational.

Liberty's Ravettine and Wakeley will next compete in the 2011 AT&T USA Swimming Winter National Championships, hosted at Georgia Tech, Dec. 1-3, in Atlanta, Ga.

The Lady Flames' next team competition will take place Jan. 7, 2012 in Fort Myers, Fla. The Lady Flames will compete against the host Florida Gulf Coast, along with fNorth Dakota and Georgia Tech.
