Queensland Takes Lead After First Day of 2009 Australian State Teams Short Course Championships

CANBERRA, Australia, September 19. QUEENSLAND will take a 56 point lead into the second day of competition at the 2009 State Teams Short Course Championships after opening their account with the first win of the night in the mixed 15 years 8x50m freestyle relay, and continuing on to take a commanding lead in the competition.

Strong individual swims from up-and-comers Bonnie Macdonald and Jayden Hadler got the Maroons off to a great start with Zoe Diamond hitting back for NSW and Declan Potts securing South Australia's only individual win in the 400m freestyle.

The conclusion of the 400m freestyle events saw the session move to 50m skins across all ages and all strokes, with NSW setting the pace through Emma McKeon, Kenneth To and Justin James well placed to score points going forward.

With two sessions scheduled for Sunday, and the final session on Monday morning, all states will be looking to peg back the Queensland lead when swimmers are back in action from 930am tomorrow.
