Queens’ Patricia Castro Ortega dominated the women’s 500-yard free at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships in 4:39.28, winning by nearly nine seconds. The senior’s time broke her own NCAA D II record of 4:40.65 she set last month at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.

This is her third individual win of the meet, and she has also set new NCAA D II records in both the 200 IM (1:55.63) and 400 IM (4:08.56).

Grand Valley’s Leonie Van Noort took second in 4:47.95, five seconds faster than her morning swim. West Chester’s Theresa Hayward finished third in 4:52.76.

Cal Baptist’s Christina Halverson (4:53.06), Drury’s Megan Ouhl (4:53.21), Queens’ Meridith Boudreaux (4:55.33), Nova Southeastern’s Emma Wahlstrom (4:56.14), and Drury’s Sarah Pullen (4:57.03) completed the top eight.
