Poll of the Week: Golden Goggle Female Race of the Year Nominees (Results)

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 4. THE Golden Goggle Awards is coming up on November 24, celebrating the best swims of 2013 by Team USA. Our Poll of the Week shows for the past month have asked you who should win these awards, and last week we wanted to know who should take the award for female race of the year. By a very, very large margin, Katie Ledecky’s 1500 freestyle at the world championships was the top vote getter with 61.02 percent. Ledecky was in a very close battle with Denmark’s Lotte Friis for just about the entire race, with both breaking the world record and Ledecky grabbing the gold. Coming in second with 21.47 percent was Ledecky’s 800 free at the world championships, another gold medal swim for her. Missy Franklin’s 200 free win at worlds was third with 11.86 percent and Haley Anderson’s 5K open water gold medal rounded out the voting with 5.65 percent.

Let’s move over to the men for our next poll question. Two men make up the three choices in the category of Male Race of the Year. Should the award go to Matt Grevers and his 100 back gold medal at the world championships, or one of the two individual gold medals that Ryan Lochte won in Barcelona? You can pick either the 200 back or the 200 IM.

Don’t forget to make your vote really count for the Golden Goggles by going to usaswimming.org/goldengoggles. Public voting ends November 15, so you have a little more than a week to figure out who you want to walk away with the eight awards being given out in Los Angeles.
