Poll of the Week: Golden Goggle Breakout Performer Nominees (Results)

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 14. WE’RE bringing you poll questions featuring the nominees for the upcoming Golden Goggle Awards ceremony, which will be held November 24 in Los Angeles. Our first poll question of this nature asked you to pick the breakout performer of the year among the four choices. With 39.88 percent, Chase Kalisz got the most votes from those who participated in our poll. Simone Manuel finished in second place with 29.45 percent, Jimmy Feigen was third with 22.70 percent and Michael McBroom rounded out the voting with 7.98 percent.

Our next poll question deals with the category Coach of the Year. This is the only award at the Golden Goggles not given to swimmers, and it usually meshes with the person who receives the ASCA Coach of the Year award a couple of months prior to this ceremony. Will that happen this year? Here are the nominees. Rick DeMont, the coach of 100 back world champion Matt Grevers; Bruce Gemmell, who guided Katie Ledecky to four golds and two world records in Spain; Dave Salo, whose foreign swimmers did well, as did Jessica Hardy with two bronze medals and a gold in the relay; Todd Schmitz, who helped Missy Franklin make history as the first swimmer to win six gold medals at the world championships; and Gregg Troy, the coach of gold medalist Ryan Lochte and bronze medalist Elizabeth Beisel.

To place your vote, go to swimmingworld.com and pick your favorite for coach of the year in our poll on the right side of the page. We’ll let you know how the voting turned out on our next show. And be sure to go to usaswimming.org/goldengoggles to let your vote count for the actual awards in all eight categories.
