Pickering Named Director of Coaching Education for US water Polo

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. Aug. 27. USA Water Polo announced the hiring of Michelle Pickering of Long Beach, CA, to the position of National Director
of Education today. The primary responsibility of the Director will be to schedule, organize and administer the educational programs related to coaching and officiating within USA Water Polo.

The Director¹s initial focus will be recruiting clinicians needed to staff clinics throughout the USA, oversee clinician training, support the Zone Administrators as they structure clinics and Academy sessions within their zones, develop training manuals and materials, implement and supervise the certification programs and maintain the certification databases.

"Michelle has a proven record of administrative excellence both in her business careers and in her quasi-volunteer position for the past three years as Women¹s Olympic Team Leader," said Bruce Wigo, Executive Director of USA Water Polo. "We were looking for someone who could work with our coaches, was an experienced administrator and someone who knew the administrative structure of our sport. Michelle fits the bill in all three areas."

Pickering graduated from UCLA in 1994, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Summa Cum Laude honors. She spent three years working as an administrator in the UCLA athletic department, assisting with recruiting and development, travel, logistics and programs. In addition, she has twelve years of experience in the National/Hotel Industry as a manager/administrator
responsible for sales, contract negotiation, new hire sales training, development of incentive programs for both employees and customers, product marketing and promotion. In the spring, she initiated a very successful nationwide "New" Player Identification Program for the women¹s National Team.

"I am looking forward to taking administrative charge of United States Water Polo¹s professional education development," said Ms. Pickering. "There are more athletes who want to play than we have coaches and officials for, so developing new and better coaches is essential to the continued growth of our sport and I look to bring positive and useful tools to this area. It is a very exciting time for our sport and I am duly excited to be part of it."

Ms. Pickering will be based in Long Beach, CA.
