Peter Daland Invitational Concludes In Southern California

LOS ANGELES – The Peter Daland Invitational came to a close yesterday afternoon, featuring several more victories from both Trojan swim teams, as well as swimmers from Rose Bowl Aquatics, Irvine Novaquatics, Trojan Swim Club and Canyons Aquatic Club.

The USC-hosted Peter Daland Invitational entered its second session on Saturday (Oct.25) and the Trojans, in the morning events, continued to show consistent performances with senior Cary Wright and freshman Ralf Tribuntsov winning the men’s 400y IM and 100y backstroke, respectively.

The meet features USC as well as a handful of local club teams and the Trojan Swim Club.

Wright and sophomore Michael Domagala picked up the Trojans’ first win of the day by finishing 1-2 in men’s 400y IM. Wright clocked a 4:00.47 and Domagala quickly followed with a 4:01.46.

Tribunstov then won the men’s 100y in 48.60 with senior Luca Spinazzola finishing third (50.21) and sophomore Jon Knox following in fourth (51.10).

Senior Andrea Kropp finished twice in third as she clocked 4:24.38 in women’s 400y IM and 1:04.62 in the 100y breast.

Sophomore Chelsea Chenault missed the top three by a fraction in women’s 200y free finishing in 1:51.92.

USC swept the men’s events in the evening session. The women’s side did not compete.

The Trojans dominated the men’s 200y back, sweeping the top four spots of the event. Tribuntsov swam his season best 1:47.01 and Wright (1:48.19) and Knox (1:50.17) followed. Freshman Jason O’Brien came in fourth, clocking 1:53.96.

USC sophomore Santo Condorelli won the 100y free in a season-best 44.19 and was followed by sophomore Dylan Carter (44.78). Sophomore David Morgan (46.07) finished fourth.

Sophomore Steven Stumph and junior Ridge Altman went 2-3 in men’s 200y breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:03.63 and 2:04.09, respectively.

USC came out exceptionally strong in the men’s 200y fly as three swimmers clocked within the team’s season best time. Wright secured his second victory of the day with a 1:48.53. Domagala (1:50.13) and senior Dakota Hodgson (1:50.51) came in second and third, respectively.

The Trojans will return to the Uygtensu Aquatics Center on Nov. 14h at 7 p.m. for a dual meet against Arizona State. USC hosts Arizona on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

A public celebration of the life of legendary USC men’s swimming coach Peter Daland, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 93, will be held on Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center on the USC campus.
