Petar Stoychev, Esther Nunez Top Santa Fe Leg of FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 1. ON January 31, 2010, 23 open water swimmers contested the second leg of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix, a demanding 57-kilometre race, which took place between Santa Fe and Coronda, in Argentina.

Petar Stoychev (BUL), gold medalist of the Grand Prix in 2009 (and in all previous editions since 2001), won the race, rounding up in 6h57m52s. He took the lead only 600 metres from the finish line. Alexander Studzinski (GER) was racing closely behind and grabbed silver, timing 6h57m59s. Rodolfo Valenti (ITA, sixth of the Grand Prix in 2009) finished third in 6h58m58s while Damián Blaum (ARG, second of the Grand Prix in 2009) took the fourth place. In the first race of the season, on January 24 in Rosario (ARG), Stoychev had been only 11th.

Esther Nunez (ESP) was first in the women's race in 7h26m08s; she had finished third one week ago in Rosario. Shelley Clark (AUS) finished second in 7h28m45s and Pilar Geijo (ARG, second of the Grand Prix in 2009) was granted the third place, timing 7h31m05s.
