Performance of the Week: Sept. 11, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 11. IT'S fitting that we give this Performance of the Week honor on the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place in New York City and Washington, D.C., as we are going to honor a Paralympian who fought overseas to bring down the terrorist group that masterminded the attacks.

On Sept. 7, 2011, Navy Lieutenant Bradley Snyder stepped on an IED, or improvised explosive device, and lost his eyesight. Exactly one year later, Snyder was celebrating on the medal podium at the London Paralympics after winning the 400 freestyle in the S11 division. It was his second gold medal of the meet, and his third overall. While we remember the heroes who gave their lives 11 years ago, we must also remember those who fought and continue to fight against global terrorists.

Congratulations, Lt. Snyder, you've won our Performance of the Week.
