Performance of the Week: Jan. 15, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 15. WHILE we were watching Olympians Katie Ledecky and Lia Neal at the CeraVe Invitational last weekend, Ian Silverman was quietly going about his business of breaking Paralympic American records in two events in New Jersey.

Silverman, who won a gold in the Paralympics in the 400 free, lowered his American records in the 800 and 1500 freestyles over the weekend. In the 800, he took an amazing four seconds off his record with an 8:37.74 and followed it up two days later with a 16:34.01 in the mile, taking seven tenths off his record.

Silverman was nowhere near his American record of 4:04.91 in the 400 free, swimming a 4:10.71 at the CeraVe meet, but his two American records more than make up for that.

Congratulations, Ian. You've won our Performance of the Week!
