Performance of the Week: Feb. 26, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 26. IT'S been a great past seven days for swimming fans, with two American records and two national high school records broken, in addition to a bunch of other great performances.

It was not easy to pick one swim that stood out the most as the best of the past week, but in the end, we could not deny that Germantown Academy's national high school record in the 400 free relay deserves our Performance of the Week. The foursome of Shannon McKernan, Meagan Dollard, Madiscon Visco and Rachel Zilinskas swam a 3:21.63 at the Eastern Interscholastic swimming and diving championships in Philadelphia to become the first female high school team under 3:22. These four were very well aware of the former national high school record: It was set by a team from Germantown Academy in 2006, a squad that included future world championships team member Teresa Crippen and future NCAA standouts Alicia Aimesegger, Sara Coenen and Katie Riefenstahl.

Zilinskas was the only senior on the team, so look for Germantown to chase the record next year. Congratulations to the 400 free relay team from the Germantown Academy. You've won our Performance of the Week.
