Pepperdine Overtakes Cal-State Northridge, 169-125

MALIBU, California, January 13. THE Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team kicked off its dual meet schedule against Cal State Northridge in unseasonably cold temperatures, but the Waves fought through the wintry weather to defeat the Matadors 169-125 at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The 200 medley relay team of Alison McLeod, Danielle Kimmel, Amy Nightingale and Haley Wilson captured a first place finish with a time of 1:49.31, while the 400 free relay team of Loriann Mark, Kady Skora, Brianna Blanchard and McLeod took first with a 3:41.52.

Sophomore Haley Wilson led the Waves as she took three top finishes for 27 points in the 200 free (1:56.36), 100 free (53.78) and 200 IM (2:13.47). McLeod captured two first-place finishes including a 1:01.24 in the 100 back and a 58.76 in the 100 fly. Katie Hakim was behind her senior teammate in the 100 back as she placed second with a 1:04.39 and also placed third in the 100 fly.

Marissa McDaniel took first place in the 200 back swimming a 2:17.90, while teammate Jaime Lyon came in second with a 2:19.23.

Danielle Kimmel led the Waves in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events taking second with a 1:09.14 and third with a 2:33.85, respectively. Sara Kallman and Emily Sharp took third and fourth, respectively in the 100 breast. Freshman Amy Nightingale placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:15.63 and took third in the 100 free. In the 50 free, Lauren Meagher placed third with a time 25.50.

In distance, Brianna Blanchard had a successful meet as she led the Waves in both the 1000 free and 500 free. Placing third in the longer of the two events, Blanchard swam an 11:03.10, while taking second in the 500 with a time of 5:23.90. Skora and Mark placed third and fourth, respectively, behind their freshman teammate in the 500 free.

Sarah Towers led the Waves in both diving events as she took the top spot with 220.5 points in the one-meter dive and 230.8 points in the three-meter dive. Sophomore Amanda Pond placed second in the one-meter, while senior Devyn Schumacher took second in the three-meter. Sophomore Michelle Wargo placed third in both events.

The Waves are back in action on Sat., Jan. 20 when they travel to cross-town rival Loyola Marymount with an 11:30 a.m. start.
