Penny Taylor Breaks Another US Masters National Record

PHOENIX, Ariz., July 18. CAROL "Penny" Taylor smashed a six year-old US Masters Swimming (USMS) national record today, the second day of the Arizona Masters Long Course Championships at the Brophy East Swim Team (BEST) pool in Phoenix.

Competing in the women's 75-79 division, Taylor, a 1948 Olympian, chopped more than a second off Betty Christian's record of 54.12 seconds for 50 meters breaststroke. Taylor clocked 52.93.

The world record, set last year by Germany's Edith Boehm, is 47.59,
