Penn State Men Defeat Big Ten Rival Ohio State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn, February 7. THE Penn State men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its dual meet season with a close 122-121 victory over Big Ten rival Ohio State Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.The Nittany Lions won eight of 13 events to win its second straight dual meet to finish 4-5 on the season.

Senior Todd Minnier (Avon Lake, Ohio) led Penn State with three victories, while junior Daryl Northrop (Verona, N.J.) and junior Dustin Thompson (Munster, Ind.) had two each.Minnier and Northrop helped teammates Shawn McLin (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Dan Velez (Germantown, Md.) earn a first-place finish in the 400-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:20.72.

Minnier also won the 200 freestyle with an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:38.00. He also touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle in 45.21.Northrop captured an individual win in the 50 freestyle in 21.09.Thompson picked up first-place finishes in the 200 fly (1:51.50) and the 500 free (4:39.95).

Also finishing first for the Nittany Lions were freshman Patrick Healy (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 1000 freestyle (9:34.26) and junior Mark Zucca (Hudson, Ohio) in the 200 breaststroke (2:03.68).
