Penn State Adds Doak Finch, Retains Liz McMillan on Swimming Coaching Staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania, August 29. NEW Penn State head swimming and diving coach Tim Murphy added Virginia’s Doak Finch and retained Liz McMillan today as he moves forward in a new direction in his new position at the helm of the Nittany Lions.

McMillan enters her sixth season as an assistant coach at Penn State after having previously coached in both the ACC and BIG East at stops prior to her 2008-09 inaugural year with the Nittany Lions. She helped PSU produce 11 All-Americans last year.

“Liz has been a vital part of the success that Penn State swimming and diving has had during her tenure,” Murphy said. “She is a great coach and mentor, and will continue to challenge the team as it embarks on even greater heights.”

Finch, meanwhile, joins Penn State after 11 seasons with the Virginia Cavaliers as primarily a distance coach. UVA’s distance group claimed four ACC titles last year, including a women’s sweep by Kelly Offutt. Finch also has a competitive swimming background, having earned 11 All-American certificates for Virginia.

“It is an honor to join the Penn State swimming and diving family and I am excited to continue the traditions set by those before me,” Finch said. “I want to thank Tim Murphy and Charmelle Green for the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with the program and I look forward to helping the student-athletes achieve at the highest level both academically and athletically.”
