Paving the Way

Success (or failure) of a taper depends largely upon the previous quality of work. Coaches of three USA Swimming club teams share how they taper their age group and senior swimmers. The excuse “I missed my taper” is one that frequently gets thrown around on the pool deck, coaching legend Jon Urbanchek’s response is “You didn’t miss your taper; you missed the training.” Author Michael Stott craftily pieces together the wisdom of Steve Earley, Brian Pajer, and Jeremy Linn to highlight what they have found successful in their own years of coaching regarding taper.
