Paul Powers has raced at some major swimming competitions, but the Michigan freshman wasn’t completely prepared for the intensity that is the men’s NCAA championships. In an interview with Swimming World’s Mike Stott, the 50 free finalist talked about his experiences in Iowa City, including not swimming up to par in the 200 medley relay on Friday. He talked about the discussion he had with coaches about not swimming on the finals relay and how that might have helped him swim well in the 400 free relay prelims.

Powers also talks about the training he’s put in the past six months and how the Michigan seniors have inspired him.
