Paul Le Earns Third Victory on Night Three of Jenks Speedo Sectionals

Missouri State’s Paul Le won his third individual event to highlight day three finals of the 2018 Speedo Sectional Series in Jenks, Okla. Hosted by the Jenks Trojan Swim Club, the meet will run July 11-14 and is held at the Jenks Trojan Aquatics Center.

Women’s 400 Free

Missouri’s Courtney Evensen began night three with a win in the women’s 400 free. She held consistent splits throughout the race to win with a time of 4:17.47.

Her teammate Azra Avdic finished second in 4:19.57 while Scarlet’s Junseo Kim took third in 4:20.33.

SwimTulsa’s Liberty Howell (4:23.23), Luciana Thomas (4:23.33), Club Husker’s Rachel Powers (4:24.91), Missouri’s Aurore Jacolin (4:25.77) and Wichita’s Katelyn Blattner (4:27.04) completed the top eight.

Men’s 400 Free

Antonio Thomas was the sole swimmer under the four-minute barrier in the men’s 400 free, finishing with a final time of 3:59.03. That’s a new lifetime best by nearly four seconds.

Missouri’s Grant Reed finished second in 4:02.76 while Council Bluff’s Jackson Allmon wound up third in 4:05.56.

Scarlet’s Kyle Iorizzo (4:06.76), Jonesboro’s Jack Little (4:06.78), American Energy’s Hunter Denison (4:10.75), Scarlet’s Zach Hu (4:12.19) and Arkansas Dolphins’ Vincent Jaworski (4:14.47) rounded out the A final.

Women’s 100 Breast

Arkansas’ Madison Strathman completed her breaststroke sweep after winning the women’s 100 breast tonight. She finished in 1:10.27 during finals after posting a lifetime best 1:10.24 during prelims.

Second went to Club Husker’s Gwendolyn Worlton in 1:11.12 and third went to Splash Club’s Katherine Steward in 1:11.89.

Splash Club’s Haley Downey (1:11.96), American Energy’s Anna Newby (1:12.72), Club Husker’s Victoria Beeler (1:12.91), Springfield’s Aubrey Brouwer (1:13.19) and Columbia’s Nicole Williams (1:14.75) finished fourth through eighth.

Men’s 100 Breast

Missouri’s Caleb Hicks won a close men’s 100 breast battle, getting his hands to the wall on three-tenths faster than the runner-up. He posted a time of 1:03.52 for the win.

Sappy County’s Noah Barr was second in 1:03.84 and Missouri State’s Paul Le finished third in 1:04.19.

Greater Omaha’s Conner Funke (1:04.42), Missouri’s Nick Alexander (1:04.69), Missouri’s Nick Staver (1:04.94), Missouri’s Alex Walton (1:05.02) and Missouri’s Ryan Geheb (1:05.53) also raced in the top heat.

Women’s 200 Fly

Springfield’s used a strong first half to propel herself to a win in the women’s 200 fly. The 15-year-old finished first with a final time of 2:14.51, a new personal best.

Thomas finished second in 2:15.35 and Club Husker’s Dana Posthuma was third in 2:16.40.

Also swimming in the fastest heat was Arkansas’ Marlena Pigliacampi (2:17.98), Kim (2:19.61), Avdic (2:19.75), Columbia’s Ellen Flanagan (2:21.18) and Club Husker’s Jacqueline Jeschke (2:21.39).

Men’s 200 Fly

After finishing third in last night’s 400 IM, Missouri’s Gustavo Gutierrez found himself on top of the podium tonight in the men’s 200 fly. He won by two seconds in a time of 2:03.33.

Parkway’s Noah Scheuermann touched second in 2:05.31 while Sooner’s Aiden Hayes finished a close third in 2:05.58.

Scarlet’s Justin Park (2:06.85), King Marlin’s Richard Wagner (2:07.25), Scarlet’s Gabriel Orbe (2:07.96),Tsunami’s Cameron Murphy (2:11.28) and Iorizzo (2:11.38) rounded out the top eight.

Women’s 50 Back

Missouri’s Haley Hynes sprinted her way to a win in the women’s 50 back, winning by nearly a full second. She dropped two-tenths from her morning swim to take the title in 28.84.

Her teammate Sarah Thompson took second in 29.70 while Club Husker’s Lindsay Helferich took third in 29.93 as the only other swimmers under the 30-second mark.

Also in the top eight were Huntsville’s Kobie Melton (30.01), Rockwood’s Isabelle Clark (30.02), American Energy’s Piper McNeil (30.05), Club Husker’s Clara Walstad (30.47) and Greater Omaha’s Elizabeth Richardson (30.87).

Men’s 50 Back

Le powered his way to a win in the men’s 50 back, just sneaking under the 26-second mark with a final time of 25.97. This marks his third win of the meet in addition to both the 50 and 100 fly.

Second went to Missouri’s Nick Alexander in 26.08 and third went to Rockwood’s Jack Dolan in 26.47.

Flyers’ Trevor Halliburton (27.16), Norfolk’s Cameron Carney (27.36), Sappy County’s Mark Cavanaugh (27.39), Sappy County’s Luke Barr (27.54) and Arkansas Dolphins’ Thomas Heye (27.63) completed the A flight.

Prelims for the fourth and final day of competition will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
