Passages: Wabash Swimmer Patrick Michael Woehnker, 19

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana, October 29. WABASH College mourns the loss of Patrick Michael Woehnker, 19, of Kendallville, Ind. Patrick died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained after falling from the rooftop of Goodrich Hall. Woehnker had just competed in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Dual Meet of the Week, during which Wabash defeated Carthage, 162-132.

"Three months ago we welcomed Patrick and his classmates in the Class of 2011 to our band of brothers here at Wabash," said Wabash President Patrick White. "We've lost a brother and it's a very sad time for our entire community, but especially his classmates, fraternity brothers, and teammates."

Woehnker was a freshman student at Wabash and an honors graduate of East Noble High School. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Wabash College swimming and diving team.

The College has very little information at this time, but believes it to be a tragic accident.

The Crawfordsville Police Department is investigating the accident. The Wabash Dean of Students Office is also looking into what might have happened.

"Our immediate concern is for Patrick's family, his fraternity brothers, and his teammates on the Wabash swimming and diving team," said College spokesman Jim Amidon. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this terribly difficult time."

Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Kendallville Parks and Recreation Department. Online condolences can be sent to: hitefuneralhome.com

Special thanks to Wabash College for contributing this report, and to Collegeswimming.com for alerting us to this heartbreaking occurrence. Swimming World Magazine's condolences go out to the friends and family of Woehnker.
