IRVINE, California, August 19. AUSTRALIA's Sophie Edington gave the Aussies their first win of the night with a winning time in the women's 50 back at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Edington clocked a 27.83 for the win, moving to fourth in the world behind Aliaksandra Herasimenia (27.64) and Zhao Jing and Gao Chang (27.72s). Japan's Aya Terakawa picked up second in 28.04, while a three-way tie for third put a drain on the bronze-medal supply as New Zealand's Emily Thomas, Brazil's Fabiola Molina and USA's Rachel Bootsma tied with matching 28.44s.

Australia's Grace Loh (28.45), Canada's Julia Wilkinson (28.55) and Japan's Shiho Sakai (28.75) also swam in the finale.

Australia's Emily Seebohm won the B final with a time of 28.30, off her top 10 season best of 27.95 set at the Australian Nationals in March.
