GOLD COAST, Australia, August 21. SHE’s been looking to score a big head-to-head victory against Missy Franklin, and she finally got it as Australia’s Emily Seebohm took advantage of a bit of a wounded Franklin to scorch the Pan Pacs 100-meter back finale in 58.84. That’s an Australian All-Comers and Pan Pacs record.

Her previous world-leading time from the Australian Nationals of 58.92 had been the All-Comers record, while Seebohm also took down her meet record of 59.34 from this event in 2010. That’s a successful title defense for Seebohm.

Japan’s Sayaka Akase (1:00.65), Canada’s Dominique Bouchard (1:00.82), Canada’s Hilary Caldwell (1:00.99), USA’s Elizabeth Pelton (1:01.37) and Japan’s Miyuki Takemura (1:01.88) also competed in the championship heat.
