Pacific Quad Meet

STOCKTON, California, November 6. COMPETING in the second dual meet of the season, Pacific's women's swim team defeated Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) opponents Cal State Bakersfield (170-89), Loyola Marymount (152-107) and Seattle University (160-99). With the three wins Pacific improved to 5-1 (4-0 MPSF) on the season. Pacific's men's swim team fell to MPSF opponent Cal State Bakersfield (158.50-103.50) and defeated Seattle University (149.50-112.50). With the win and the loss Pacific's men's swim team improved to 1-2 (1-2 MPSF) on the year.

The women kicked off the afternoon with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Pacific's "A" relay team comprised of Becca Wyant (Redmond, Wash.), Mallory McGowan (Colusa, Calif.), Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) and MaryElla Randall (Walnut Creek, Calif.) captured the top spot with a collective time of 1:48.50. Wyant also captured a third place finish in the 100 Back, when she touched the wall in 1:01.09.

On the men's side of the 200 Medley Relay, Pacific's "A" relay team made up of Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.), Nathan LeRoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.), David Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) and Kevin Schirmer (Danville, Calif.) touched the wall in the 1:37.55 to finish in fourth. The men's individual top finish of the day also came from Schirmer, when he touched the wall in 21.30 during the 50 Free to finish in first.

In the women's first individual event of the day the Tigers had a pair of top three finishes in the women's 1000 Free. Jayme Swalin (Kenmore, Wash.) registered a first place finish with a time of 10:26.69 while Katie McBride (Colorado Springs, Colo.) touched the wall in 10:43.70 to come in third. Swalin also finished in first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:07.43, while Walterman captured first place finishes in the 200 Fly (2:07.99) and 100 Fly (57.78).
Also capturing first place finishes were McGowan in the 100 Breast (1:05.57), Randall in the 100 Free (52.97), Hayley Shillington (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) in the 200 Back (2:08.61)and Allie Vetterlein (Seattle, Wash.) in the 200 IM (2:09.59). Shillington also had Pacific's top finish in the 200 Free when she came in second with a time of 1:56.14, while Randall also had second place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 24.39.

Zach Zlotoff (San Jose, Calif.) had a pair of second place finishes for the men's swim team. His first came in the 1000 Free when the touched the wall in 9:51.70. He then picked up another second place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 4:45.21. Also registering second place finishes on the day were LeRoy in the 200 Breast (2:09.24) and Hans Peters (Naperville, Ill.) in the 200 Free (1:43.29). Peters also had Pacific's highest finish in the 100 Free when nabbed a third place finish with a time of 47.34. Sean Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md.) had the Tigers best finish in the 200 Fly when he touched the wall in 1:59.02 to finish in third. Senior Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.) registered the Tigers fastest time in the 200 Back, when he touched the wall in 1:57.48 to finish in third.

The men's 400 Free Relay team comprised of Schirmer, Peters, Taylor Moore (Sacramento, Calif.) and Steven Woods (Walnut Creek, Calif.) closed out the meet with a first place finish when the beat Cal State Bakersfield's "A" relay team with a time of 3:07.17.

Pacific returns to action December 2-4 at the USA Short Course Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind.
