Over 15,000 Swimmers Participate in Taiwan’s Sun Moon Lake 3K Swim

By Morrie Chiang

SUN MOON LAKE, Taiwan, October 15. A record 15,708 swimmers — mostly Masters swimmers — took part in the annual 3K swim at Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan on Saturday.

The lake, best known as a honeymoon spot, has the annual nearly two-mile swim each October as part of a five-stop open water swim season. The other four open water swims are ocean swims.

It is believed that this year's Sun Moon Lake crossing boasted one of the largest open water fields in history, exceeded only by lake swims in South Africa and Israel.
