Ouachita, Delta State Split

CLEVELAND, Miss., February 1. OUACHITA Lady TigerShark Ksenija Kraic set a school record in the 200 yard breaststroke and the Div. II 14th-ranked Lady TigerSharks defeated No. 12 Delta State 131-107 Saturday at Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. The No. 8 TigerSharks fell to No. 2 Delta State in the men’s meet 148-92.

For the Lady Tigersharks, Emily Looney and Amanda Loper took first place in two events each. Looney earned first-place points for Ouachita in the 200 butterfly and in the 500 freestyle while Looney won the 50 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. Ouachita’s Louise Griffin won the 200 freestyle and Kelly McGowan gave Ouachita another first-place finish by winning the 100 freestyle.

Yukiko Sawaki took first place in the one meter diving event and Ouachita helped its cause by winning both relay events. Kraic’s school record just happened to come in an event in which a DSU swimmer posted a fast time as well. Kraic finished in second place in the race as she was 13 one-hundredths of a second behind the event winner.

For the men, Justin Boyd recorded a win in the 200 individual medley event, Jon Manning won the 200 butterfly and Nick Sorrell finished first place in the 200 breaststroke. The TigerSharks also won the 400 freestyle relay with Rinaldo Sintjago, Chris Achey, Paul Frankenberger and Mike Waldrop teaming up for the victory.

Both the TigerSharks and Lady TigerSharks will return to action this Friday, February 6, when they face the Henderson State Red Wave at HSU’s Wells Center.
