Ouachita Baptist Sweeps Delta State (M:190-103; W:161-126)

ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas, October 6. The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams opened the season with victories over Delta State at Waggoner Pool as the TigerSharks defeated Delta State 190-103, while the women earned a 161-126 victory.

For the men, Nelson Silva took advantage of the season-opening meet as he made three automatic qualifying times for the NCAA Meet. Silva, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, tied the pool record in the 100 Back and broke the pool and OBU records in the 200 fly. He finished in :50.48 in the 100 back, 1:51.99 in the 200 butterfly and 1:50.71 in the 200 back. He also made the optional qualifying time in the200 individual medley with a time of 1:55.05.

Radu Badalac made the optional qualifying time in the 100 back.

On the women's side, Sarah Watson made the optional qualifying time in both the 100 and 200 back, while sister, Rachel, made the optional time in the 100 free.

"I thought we swam well for the first meet of the season," Ouachita Baptist head coach Jim Dann said. "Beating Delta State is a big step in starting a successful season."
