Caeleb Dressel Claims Two Wins During Night Two of Orlando Sectionals

Following night one‘s distance and relay action, fast swimming continued at the 2015 Southern Zone South Section Championship Meet in Orlando, Florida.

Bolles’ Caeleb Dressel raced to two wins during the evening. Dressel claimed the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.42. Gator Swim Club’s Corey Main was just hundredths back in a 1:49.58. His teammate Sebastian Rousseau finished third in a 1:51.08.

Dressel later dropped .35 off his lifetime best to capture the 100 fly title in a 52.96. David Knight of Club Seminole also bettered his seed time to finish second in a 53.02, just six one hundredths behind Dressel. Knight’s teammate Pavel Sankovich finished third with a 53.42.

Megan Moroney from St. Andrew’s recorded the first women’s win of the night with a 2:02.07 in the 200 freestyle. Ksenia Yuskova from Hurricane Aquatics followed closely with a 2:02.70 while Kendall Dawson, representing Fast Lane Aquatics, swam a 2:03.43 for third.

Twenty eight year old Justine Bowker from T2 Aquatics touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke finishing with a 1:09.15. Representing Gator Swim Club Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir swam a 1:10.37 for second while Central Brevard’s Danielle Keymont was third in a time of 1:11.63.

The men’s 100 breaststroke went to Club Seminole’s Jarod Pike in a time of 1:02.5. His teammate, Jacob Coombs, went a 1:03.91 for third place. Ilya Evdokima from Coral Springs went a 1:03.66 to finish second.

The top three women in the 50 backstroke all dipped under the 30 second barrier. Scarlet Aquatic’s Matea Samardzic lead the way in a 29.42. Swim Florida’s Elise Haan was just .11 behind her for second in a 29.53. Golden Panther Naomi Ruele finished in third with a 29.90.

In the men’s event George McGovern from Tampa Bay Aquatics sprinted his way to a 26.90 for first. He was followed by Bolles’ Dakota Mahaffey who raced to a second place time of 27.14. Swim Fort Lauderdale’s Nikita Tretyakov rounded out the top three with a 27.39.

Natalie Hinds lead the way in the women’s 100 butterfly finishing in a 1:00.16 while Trinity Prep Aquatics’ Claire Maiocco finished second in a 1:00.39. Bowker swam a 1:00.77 for her second top three finish of the evening.

Olympian Elizabeth Beisel lead the way in her signature event, the 400 IM, stopping the clock at 4:46.17. Fresh off her 50 backstroke win, Samardzic finished second in a 4:50.84. Jesicca Thielamn from Gator Swim Club finished third in a 4:53.56.

The Gator Swim Club swept the podium in the men’s 400 IM. Rousseau won the event with a 4:19.89, while teammate Mark Szaranek was two seconds behind in a 4:21.45 and Dan Wallace rounded out the trio with a 4:27.06.

Friday’s finals concluded with the timed finals of the 800 freestyle relays. The Sarasota YMCA women’s team of Ashlee Linn, Taylor Katz, Sophie Cattermole, and Ellen Berdusco claimed victory recording a time of 8:22.41. Gator Swim Club finished second in a time of 8:25.45 while Scarlet Aquatics rounded out the top three finishing in a time of 8:29.64.

The Gator Swim Club men claimed a nearly 23 second victory in the 800 freestyle relay as Nicholas Sweetster, Main, Rousseau and Wallace stopped the clock at 7:21.85. Scarlet Aquatics finished in a distant second with a 7:44.44 while the Sarasota men were third in a 7:46.53.

At the conclusion of night two, Scarlet Aquatics continues to lead the women’s team standings with 291 points. Bolles School Sharks are in second with 185 points and T2 Aquatics is third with 152 points.

On the men’s side, the Bolles School Sharks lead with 282.5 points, Gator Swim Club is second with 227 points, and Scarlet Aquatics sits in third with 186 points.
