Trojan’s Haley Anderson doubled up tonight during an exciting 2015 TYR Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions.

In a highly-anticipated finale, Canyons’ Abbey Weitzeil took down Mission Viejo’s Katie McLaughlin in the women’s 100-meter free.

Weitzeil won in 54.42, the third best swim in her lifetime.  Her two fastest times are a 54.38 and 54.41 at the 2014 Summer Nationals.

McLaughlin, who smoked prelims in the 200-meter fly with a ninth-ranked 2:07.93 but scratched the event to focus on the 100 tonight, put up a personal best in the 100 with a 55.05.  That’s better than her 55.33 from the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, but she likely was hoping to see a 54-second time for the first time in her life.

Stanzi Moseley finished third overall in the 100 with a time of 55.30.

Then, in a close competition, Santo Condorelli clipped Trojan’s Cristian Quintero, 49.65 to 49.66, for the men’s 100-meter free crown.  Yuri Kisil closed out the podium with a third-place time of 50.18.

With McLaughlin out of the women’s 200-meter fly, the door was open for some other people to make some big moves.  Open water specialist Haley Anderson of Trojan did just that with a personal best 2:10.84.  That swim smashed her previous best of 2:13.24 from the 2008 Junior Nationals.

Aquazot’s Sonia Wang nipped her lifetime best with a 2:12.60 for second. That’s a bit better than the 2:12.72 she clocked last summer at Junior Nationals.  SoCal’s Ella Eastin wound up in third in 2:12.98.

With Golden Bear teammate Tom Shields staying home to work on an injury, Justin Lynch snatched the men’s 200-meter fly title in 1:58.43.  That swim is his second fastest ever behind a lifetime best 1:57.80 from the 2013 Junior Nationals.  Mission Viejo’s Grant Shoults hit the wall second in 1:59.15 for a small personal best of his own (1:59.24 from last summer).  Aquazot’s Corey Okubo touched third in 2:00.80.

HMST’s Erin Earley claimed the women’s 200-meter back in a time of 2:11.62.  That swim is her third best ever, behind a pair of 2:10.9s from the last two Marches. Brooklynn Snodgrass checked in with a second-place time of 2:13.62, while Trojan’s Hannah Weiss took third in 2:13.78.

Aquazot’s Corey Okubo (2:02.55) and Danny Tran (2:03.03) finished first and second in the men’s 200-meter backstroke.  Nitro’s Gus Whiteman placed third in 2:04.19.

Anderson had a big night as she followed her 200 fly lifetime best with the second victory of the night with a 4:12.33 in the 400-meter free.  That’s nearly an in-season best for her, off a 4:11.96 from the 2014 Los Angeles Invitational.  Allie Davis placed second tonight in 4:13.07 with Mission Viejo’s Samantha Shelton taking third in 4:14.72.

Trojan’s Mads Glaesner threw down a time of 3:49.91 to win the men’s 400-meter free.  Shoults placed second in 3:54.16, while Nitro’s Sean Grieshop earned third in 3:54.40.

The meet is named after former Mission Viejo Nadador Fran Crippen, who died during an open water race in 2010.
